Citizens Police Academy 1

  • Aug. 11th, 2009 at 7:21 AM

Well my husband and I are doing the Citizens Police academy offered in out area.  It's interesting because it'll let us the type of training police officers receive and experience a small bit if what they go through, teach why they make some of the decisions they do and so on.  The idea is to improve communication/relations between police and citizens.  It's a 10 week course and last night was the first one.  We got a tour of the training facility and firefighters and EMT's are trained there too.  It's nice because in Rochester, police and firefighters really work together because in other communities they are at odds quite a bit.  Anyway, out training center is really cool, and other communities from around the country come to ours to get idea to model there's with.    Last night was mostly just introductions and we got the course outline so we know what we'll be doing each week.  Next week we'll be in the gym learning some of the defense techniques used, which should be fun.  Sometime around the end of September, we'll be actually learning to shoot a pistol at the indoor range.  This should be a great learning experience.

Memorial Day 2009

We had a fun day today.  We went to a local park for a fishing picnic although we had trouble in the beginning.  First, being that it was Memorial Day, there were no free picnic tables and we got there at 10:30am.  Luckily our friend MaryJane had thought to bring a table but we ended up calling her before she arrived to bring a couple blankets to sit on.  So she gets there and it's Windy and cold.  No free grills so Paul and MaryJane go back for a grill and warmer clothes for me and Paul, lol.  Phillip is set up at the table coloring and I'm watching him from the car because I'm in shorts and freezing, lol.  Eventually they get back and Paul and I took Phillip to the playground, which he loved and eventually we had a nice cook out.  Paul and Drew took Punky fishing although all Punk wanted to do was real in the bobber all the time, lol.

So last night, on a whim, Paul and I decided to check out the drive-in in Avon.  We like going there because we can take Phillip to the movies without annoying anyone but us, lol.  We saw a double feature of Terminator Salvation and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.  Terminator was pretty good and "Arnie" was evern in it a little bit looking real buff.  The Ghosts movie was your basic chick flick, cute and sappy and predictable but fun.  I fell asleep in it but mostly because it was the second movie adn I was pretty tired by that point.

My consumer, the one who had her medication stolen by her aide, for someone reason called the aide after she was removed from all her clients.  The aide pretty much told my consumer that she ruined her life and that now they have to move into an apartment, blah blah blah.  I'm sorry but she was the one who chose to steal medications, not only from my consumer, but from the elderly as well and deserves whatever she gets.   My consumer now feels guilty and is upset that the agency gave the aide her name as the one who turned her in.  The thing is though, I doubt they did because there are a number of people involved in this.  I think
the aide either assumed and my consumer confirmed it, or she lied and said they told her to trick my consumer into confessing.  So tuesday I have to call my consumer and try to help her sort all this out in her head so she's not beating herself up over it.

This morning I picked up one of my consumer's from her new boyfriend's house and dropped her off home on the way to work.  WHen she gets in the car she tells me when her lease runs out at her current apartment, which is the end of June, she will most likely be moving in with him.  She tends to make impulsive choices like this and they often don't work out for her so I worry that she's going to get into a bad situation.  Last August she let this person she met on the internet move into her apartment and once there he promptly lost his job and free loaded off her for months, plus was verbally abusive and I later found out, also physically abusive.   She had only known him for about a week when she agreed to let him move in.  Now she wants to move to a completely different area with a man she's known for maybe a month but there's not much I can do to stop her.

Then she tells me that her ex-boyfriend called the police on her, accusing her of harrassing him with phone calls.  When I got to work I found out that she's been texting this guy explicit pics of herself and such like.  I'm not sure if he's going to press charges at this point but also has accused her if breaking into his apartment when he was out of town.  For anyone who doens't know me,  I work in a program that provides services for individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries.  Both my consumer and her ex-boyfriend have TBI's and it often impairs judgement and decision making but my consumer seems to be an expert in bad decision making.  I hope she didn't really do this but if she did we'll just have to deal with it.  SHe and this other person have a history together, even before their TBI's.  It's always been pretty unhealthy, they're relationship together, but neither one seems to be able to completely let go.  It's not often boring where I work, that's for sure.
retribution.
I have another consumer who, in the begninning of May, shared with me that her personal care aide has stolen her medication (Hydrocodone in particular) and also has given her medication patches that were not prescribed for her.  I  talked to the aides's supervisor's 2 weeks ago and they are still letting her work with my consumer.  THis morning this consumer tells me she thinks some of her Wellbutrin were stolen yesterday so now the agency I work for are trying to convince her to press charges.  She's nervous about this however because the aide in question lives very near to her and she's worried about retribution.  I would just like the agency to take this person off while they're investigating this to keep my consumer safe.

My son Phillip is 3 years old, at least until June 4th.  Since he was 2, he's been followed by a developmental specialist clinic because he has some developmental delays, such as speech, social skills, etc... He's made great improvements over the years and pretty much is on track now.  Anyway, he saw the specialist today and they were very happy with how he's doing now.  The only thing they said to watch out for is his activity level however because he is so active they fear it might interfere with his education as he gets older.  They also said he's obese (he's 41" and 50 lbs which I guess means his body mass index is pretty high).  I had no idea, he looks healthy to me but now we're going to switch him to 1% milk and watch his fat intake.  The trouble is he's a terrible eater so I'm really going to be creative to get him to eat a little healthier.

I lost him this afternoon too for a little while which was the most horrible feeling.  He was playing outside and I ran in for a minute to use the bathroom and when I came out, he was no where in site.  Turns out he had ridden his tricycle around the corner and ended up in the middle of a very busy street.  A woman rescued him and by the time I got there, had called 911 and was waiting with him for the police.  I waited with her and straigtened it out, the police officer was super nice about the whole thing but I was feeling like the worst mother ever by this time.  Next time, the kids coming in the house if I have to go potty.

After all this mess, we went to pizza hut for lunch but I've felt horrible about this all day.  At least he's ok and safe now =)

This is Phillip at the Lilac Festival the other day:
